Requirements

All candidates are expected to present.

Exemptions will only be considered under exceptional circumstances and application for such should be endorsed by your supervisor and then sent to the Academic Representatives for your Department or Centre. They are Dr Jennifer Cornish for PSY, Dr Stephen Moore for LING, Dr Phil Taylor for CISAB and Dr Lisa Yen for MACCS. Writing up is not considered an exceptional circumstance. So that all students can enjoy the benefits of the Festival, including those with daytime work commitments, there will be a number of sessions in the evening. At this stage we anticipate the last session ending at 6:30pm. Candidates who do not present at the Festival may be asked to present at a meeting of the Division/Faculty Higher Degree Research Committee. Candidates who are Festival Committee members may choose not to present. Part time students do not need to apply for an exemption if they presented in 2007.

Part-time students

Part-time students are required to present in their first year of candidature and thence only every two years.

External students

External students who cannot present personally must submit an e-presentation (see below).

Accordingly, external students may participate in one of two ways:

In person, by timing your campus visits to coincide with the Festival dates. We strongly recommend that you do this if at all possible, as it will enable you to gain the optimum benefit from both the Festival and your on-campus sessions.

Electronically, by submitting an e-presentation. An e-presentation is simply a PowerPoint presentation that is e-mailed to the Festival organising committee for presentation during the Festival. Your presentation will be loaded on to workstations at the Festival venue and will be available for other students to view over the two days of the Festival. Your abstract will be included in the Festival program along with those of students presenting in person. Those who view your presentation will also have the opportunity to send you an email giving feedback or asking questions about your presentation. You can view the other students’ abstracts on the Festival website. You may then contact the students whose research interests you and begin a dialogue. Presenters’ email addresses are given along with their abstracts on the Festival website.

Unfortunately, at this stage the Festival committee is unable to record student presentations or provide access to PowerPoint presentations in electronic form. All rights to make presentations available in any form reside with the individual presenters.

E-presentation Powerpoint files must be emailed to Festival@psy.mq.edu.au no later than the date specified in the Key Dates section of the Festival home page.

Powerpoint format: All Powerpoint presentations should be submitted in Microsoft Office 97 - 2003 format. For those users who are running later versions, such as 2007 or 2008, the presentation should be saved as Microsoft Office 97 - 2003 format, and tested by the presenter for functionality, before submission.
